October’s Digital Learning Focus: Digital Assessment
Digital tools are designed to measure and empower learners with a better understanding of their own learning. Our classrooms have expanded to support student and teacher workflows which support real time, formative and summative assessment.
Student learning can be better measured and supported with tools which collect real time information and track student understanding. that can be collected at any time with the use of digital resources. The range of tools we have as educators to collect student learning data can be sorted into a some specific formats and modes for different types of assessments.
Listed below are just a few of the most common modes of digital assessment tools used in classrooms. Let’s delve into the nature of these different categories of tools and understand how they can engage while also measure student growth and knowledge. Some tools can export data or gamifying learning experiences in real time or at home for students.
This month I will focus on sharing how these tools can enhance your work with students and help personalize the feedback you collect while also assessing learning levels. Of course each individual applications of these tools will vary on the particular classroom application and the student learning goals to determine their maximum level of effectiveness. I have described below a few of the most common forms of digital assessment tools which can apply themselves in a variety of situations.
Gamified Assessments-Assessments which provide engaging, competitive features as well as learning outcomes.
Progress Tracking & Portfolio Based Assessment -Resources which allow for supporting students with tracking their own learning progress as well as creating digital artifacts.
Video Based Assessment Tools- Assessment tools which utilize video for sharing content but also can measure student learning.
Survey Style Quiz and Exam Generators- Tools which create digital quizzes and exams which provide student responses into organized graded formats for teacher review.
Interactives- Animated assessments which require students to actively complete a simulation to completion.
Student Response Systems- Tools which allow for instant feedback from students to review individually or as a group in chat, poll or other digital format.
